Hruthik, Aleena crash out

Bengaluru, December 14: Boys seventh seed Hruthik Katakam and girls third seed Aleena Farid crashed out in the pre-quarterfinals stage of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis (KSLTA) ATF Junior Tour 22 (Under-14) tournament on Wednesday (December 14).

Hruthik, who had blanked Hariewshwar Saravanan 6-0, 6-0 in the round-of-32 was not in his elements on Wednesday as he lost in straight sets (1-6, 5-7) to Tej Oak.

Later in the girls section, third-seeded Aleena also tumbled out after going down to Anvi Punaganti 3-6, 6-7 (4-7) .

Aleena had impressed in her 6-2, 6-1 win over Soundarya Numburi in the previous round, but Anvi proved a tough nut to crack in the round-of-16 tie.

Meanwhile Levin Safoor Mydeen and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi lived up to their top billing in the boys and girls section respectively and advanced to the quarterfinals with relative ease.

Levin thrashed Krishank Joshi 6-1, 6-0 in in the pre-quarters while Maaya defeated Aahan A 6-1, 6-4 to make it to the last-eight.

With weather staying pleasant for a major part of the day, the organisers were able to clear most of the backlog in scheduling with matches happening simultaneously at the KSLTA venues in Cubbon Park and Kanteerava courts.
The doubles main draw action also got underway on Wednesday.

The quarterfinal round matches will begin at 8.30 am on Thursday (December 15).

32 players in the singles and 16 players in the doubles are vying for top honours in the KSLTA ATF Junior Tour 22 (U-14) event, which is scheduled for a Saturday (December 17) finish.
